Why we’re excited for AWS re:Invent
Members of the Cockroach Labs team in front of our booth at AWS re:Invent 2023
For years, AWS has been a leader in cloud computing, and a critical pillar of the community, bringing people from various industries and from all over the world together in pursuit of building best-in-class web services and products, spanning storage, networking, analytics, machine learning, and more. The event also serves as a moment to celebrate all that the community has built and continues to work towards.
This year, as a company, Cockroach Labs has been focused on operational resilience, both during our own customer conferences, and in our research. In “The State of Resilience Report 2025,” we surveyed 1,000 senior technology leaders on their resilience strategies, priorities, and the vulnerabilities facing their organizations today. Of those surveyed, we found that 100% of technology executives reported outages in the past year, all resulting in financial losses. To put this into perspective, 2023 research found that outages can cost organizations anywhere from $100,000 an hour to $1 million per hour.
Given the severe consequences of downtime, we are keen to continue partnering with AWS to lead the charge in safeguarding companies in all industries, from the financial sector, retail and ecommerce, to gaming, entertainment, and everything in between. In particular, we look to AWS as an example for their commitment to data modernization, as well as exploring how best to leverage generative AI advancements ethically and sustainably.

CockroachDB at AWS re:Invent
We’re pumped to see you all at sessions during the conference, and we’re also thrilled to see you all at the Expo Hall and at our speaker session, “How Hard Rock Digital built a multi-region sportsbook with CockroachDB” [DAT336-S].
“How Hard Rock Digital built a multi-region sportsbook with CockroachDB”
We’ll be sponsoring a session with one of our long-time customers, Hard Rock Digital. If you’re currently deploying a multi-region database, or are interested in moving to multi-region, this is a great session to attend.
Hard Rock Digital is a top sports betting and interactive gaming platform born out of Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming. If you haven’t visited their platform yet, you’ll definitely recognize the branding from their ubiquitous venues, from cafes to casinos, hotels, and music venues. To build out their first product, Hard Rock Sportsbook, a multi-region betting app, the team turned to our distributed SQL database, CockroachDB.
In our session, you’ll hear from James Lupolt, Database Engineer at Hard Rock Digital, and Rob Reid, Technical Evangelist at Cockroach Labs. The duo will discuss how the Hard Rock Digital team launched their betting app with CockroachDB, while navigating strict regulatory requirements. In addition, the app needed to be highly available, able to manage high transaction loads that can be spiky, and be performant at scale across multiple regions to accommodate Hard Rock’s global audience. Check out our session to learn how Hard Rock Digital uses Amazon EC2 and AWS Outposts to run CockroachDB Cloud on AWS.
The session will be held on Monday, December 2 at 2:30-3:30 PM PST. Find us at the Wynn Hotel, Level 1, Lafite 4, Content Hub, Turquoise Screen. We hope to see you there!
